The short answer

Before the baby arrives, choose a gift that works with the details the family is ready to share. A prompted album or seller-issued gift certificate can avoid guessing a name or requiring a newborn photograph. Order a name-based story only when its required details are confirmed.

  • The shower date may arrive before the baby’s name or photograph is available.
  • An album for parents to fill is different from a personalized story made now.
  • Use the family’s preferred names and structure rather than assuming two particular parent roles.

What can you personalize before the birth?

Wonderbly: Your First BookThe baby’s confirmed name; its letters shape the book.A name-based story is difficult to make as a surprise when the name is undecided.

What if I do not know the baby’s name?

Choose a gift that does not depend on guessing it, or let the family personalize the book later. Ask which details they are comfortable sharing; a rumored name can become a permanent printing error.

Wonderbly’s baby-shower collection discusses gifts using a baby’s name or names of parents and family, depending on the title. Inspect the exact product fields. A parent-centered book is a different choice from inserting a placeholder into a name-based baby story.

Can I give a photo-personalized book before there is a baby photo?

Give a photo album to complete later, or use existing family photographs in a format that supports them. Do not assume a service can create the baby’s likeness before a suitable photo exists.

A names-and-faces board book can introduce relatives, pets and familiar places without pretending to depict the newborn. If the gift is a photo-derived illustrated story, let a parent provide the eventual input photo and approve the likeness.

Should I buy a reading book or a first-year album?

Buy a reading book for a short shared story, and an album if the gift’s purpose is recording the year. The two formats ask different amounts of work from the parents.

Artifact Uprising’s Baby Board Book lists a 5.5 × 5.75-inch format with 20, 30 or 40 pages. Its prompted baby album is a separate product. A few clear family pictures in a small book can be a more finishable project than a large album that arrives as an assignment.

How do I choose a book that fits the family?

Read the full sample for parent names, relationships and assumptions about how the baby joined the family. Use the language the parents prefer, and choose a different story when the text cannot accommodate it.

TinyShelf has a baby-shower buying guide, but its photo-based baby books require the child’s own photo and details. We do not present them as an unknown-name prenatal voucher service. For an adoption-specific request, use our adoption-storybook guide.

Before you order

  • Confirm which name and family details may be used.
  • Check whether a baby photograph is required now.
  • Choose who will complete and approve the personalization.
  • Compare the shower date with the actual delivery estimate.

A few common questions.

Can I put “Baby Smith” in every personalized book?
Only if the chosen title accepts that text and the family wants it. A temporary label may be repeated throughout the story; preview every page before ordering.
Is a gift certificate the same as a printable book voucher?
No. A seller-issued certificate has its own redemption terms. Do not invent a voucher or imply a seller offers one without checking.
